BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
His Excellency Jaime Eduardo Aleman was appointed Ambassador of Panama to the United States on August 11th, 2009 by the 52nd President of the Republic of Panama His Excellency Ricardo Martinelli Berrocal.
Prior to his distinguished designation as Ambassador of Panama to the United States, Ambassador Aleman was the managing partner at Aleman, Cordero Galindo & Lee, one of Panama’s leading law firms. In 1999, Ambassador Aleman was appointed Member of the Council of Foreign Affairs by President Mireya Moscoso. In 1988 Ambassador Aleman served as Minister of Government and Justice under President Eric Arturo Delvalle, after serving as legal counselor to President Nicolás Ardito Barletta from 1984 to 1985. Since 1981, Ambassador Aleman remained committed to public service, after beginning his public career in 1978 as a legal advisor to the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington D.C.
For over two decades, Ambassador Aleman has been a prominent member of the Board of Directors of various entities, including HSBC (Panamá) S.A., the International Lawyers Association of Panama and the Panama Chapter of Young Presidents Organization (YPO). Moreover, Ambassador Aleman has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Lawyers Association of Panama and Special Olympics. Ambassador Aleman is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Panama Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the International Bar Association.
Ambassador Aleman holds a Juris Doctor degree from Duke University School of Law and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Aleman is a Lifetime Member of Duke’s School of Law Board of Visitors, and in 2003 he was honored by the school with the International Alumni Achievement Award.
