| The Business Council for International Understanding is pleased to announce a luncheon discussion in Washington, D.C. with The Honorable John C. Stevens Ambassador of the United States to Libya U.S. Embassy Tripoli Tuesday, May 1, 2012 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. Washington, DC BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION John C. Stevens was confirmed to be the new U.S.Ambassador to Libya in March 2012. Prior to his appointment, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. Ambassador Stevens served as Special Representative to the Libyan Transitional Council from March to November 2011. Before this role, he was Director of the Office of Multilateral Nuclear and Security Affairs. Ambassador Stevens first served in Libya in 2007, initially as Deputy Chief of Mission and later as Charge d’affairs until 2009. His previous overseas assignments include Deputy Principal Officer and Political Section Chief in Jerusalem; Political Officer in Damascus; Consular/Political Officer in Cairo; and Consular/Economic Officer in Riyadh. In Washington, Ambassador Stevens has served as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs and Iran Desk Officer. Ambassador Stevens received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California Berkeley; a Juris Doctorate from the University of California’s Hastings College of Law; and a Master’s degree in National Security Studies from the National War College. He speaks Arabic and French. |
