BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION Kathleen A. Doherty assumed her duties as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs in September 2011. Her portfolio includes responsibility for managing relations with the European Union and Western Europe. Ms. Doherty served as Director of the Office of European Union and Regional Affairs at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC from 2010 to 2011. Prior to this role, she was Counselor for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassies in London, United Kingdom. She has held many other overseas assignments, including Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia; Rome, Italy; and Sao Paolo, Brazil; and Consular Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In Washington, Ms. Doherty has served as Senior Watch Officer, Special Assistant to Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott, and other positions in the Offices of Investment Affairs and Development Finance in the Bureau of Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs. Ms. Doherty earned a Bachelor of Arts from Colgate University and a Master of Science from the London School of Economics. She has been awarded several Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards from the U.S. Department of State. Her languages include Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian.
