Lowey assumed office as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York’s 18th district on January 3rd, 1993. Now in her twelfth term in Congress, Ms. Lowey is a Ranking Member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations. From 2001 to 2002, Ms. Lowey was the first female chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. She also has served as the Chair of the Congressional Women’s Caucus and the House Pro-Choice Caucus. Prior to her current position, she was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York’s 20th district from 1989 to 1993. Before being elected to Congress, she served as Assistant Secretary of State for the State of New York. Ms. Lowey earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Mount Holyoke College.
